*Chicken pox (Varicella), Shingles (Herpes zoster)

ROUTINE: Localized shingles
Mode of Transmission:
Direct contact
AIRBORNE and CONTACT: chickenpox
Airborne
AIRBORNE and CONTACT: disseminated shingles
Airborne
Direct and indirect contact
Infectious Material:
Respiratory secretions
Drainage from cutaneous lesions

Duration of Additional Precautions:
Chickenpox: Continue precautions until all vesicles have crusted and for at least 5 days
Disseminated shingles: Continue precautions until all lesions have crusted and dried.
Signs & Symptoms:
Chickenpox and disseminated shingles require single room with negative air flow.
Only immune staff should enter room
Comments:
Chickenpox and disseminated shingles require single room with negative air flow.

Susceptible and immunocompromised patients should not enter/share a room with infected or suspected infected patient
