                                Regional Infection Control System (RICS)

July 21, 2010

In the next few weeks, the first two of seven hospitals in southeastern Ontario will be "going live” with a regional infection control information management system.

Partnering with the SE LHIN, the six acute care and one rehabilitation hospitals have launched this project to improve the tracking of selected healthcare associated infections (HAIs).

                       Core Competency Program: It's Being Revived!

On April 1, 2010 the Infection Prevention and Control Core Competency Program was transferred from the Ministry of Health and  Long Term Care (MOHLTC) to the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion (OAHPP).

Research Strategy Group (RSG) has been retained to conduct an evaluation of the existing modules and will be inviting RICN stakeholders to complete a survey or to participate in an interview.  RSG will be contacting stakeholders in each RICN to participate in the evaluation process.

"Infection Watch Live"
View maps of real-time gastrointestinal and respiratory-related Emergency Department visit activity for hospitals in the SE LHIN. The maps provide a daily picture of levels of infectious disease activity in your area.
Ontario Patient Safety Indicators
The Ontario government has introduced public reporting on eight patient safety indicators. Seven of these initiatives have impact on Infection Prevention & Control Programs.
