Northeastern Ontario Infection Control Network (NEOICN): Geography

The Northeastern Ontario Infection Control Network (NEOICN) is located in the north eastern region of Ontario  that stretches north from Parry Sound as far as Hudson Bay, following the geographic boundaries established for the North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). Click here to visit the North East LHIN website.

The northeastern region is home to 604,778 people or 5% of the population of Ontario. NEOICN covers an area of 278,000 square km or almost 1/3 of Ontario’s land mass. Approximately 57% of the population resides in the larger centres of Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, North Bay and Timmins, with the remainder of the population spread out in rural/isolated communities predominantly along Hwy 11 and 17 corridors, and the James Bay Coast.
