[South Eastern Ontario ICN]

The need for work restrictions or removal from patient care duties while on treatment should be decided according to hospital infection prevention and control policy on a case-by-case basis dependent on:

  1. potential consequences of MRSA in high risk populations (e.g. ICU, burn unit, surgical services, implantable devices)
  2. effectiveness of decolonization therapy
  3. compliance with treatment and infection prevention and control precautions
  4. evidence for ongoing transmission of the organism
  5. evidence that the person is linked to ongoing transmission; and
  6. severity of infection caused by the MRSA.
