IT'S NOT EASY IT'S DIFFICILE . . . The Erie St. Clair Infection Control Network (ESCICN) of Public Health Ontario on the
advisement of the ESCICN Acute Care Committee hosted a workshop on C.difficile
and Antibiotic Stewardship. It was held at Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) on
Thursday June 16th, 2011. Dealing with challenges of C.difficile and developing an
Antibiotic Stewardship Program are initiatives of prime importance in acute care
today. A multidisciplinary team is the key. Speakers included Anne Bialachowski
from St. Joes Hamilton, Agnes Tong from PHO, and Karen Riley and Dr. Quan of
Windsor. The session was attended by infection control, public health and pharmacy.

Celebrating International Hand Hygiene Day: May 5th, 2011
The goal of celebrating an International Hand Hygiene Day, according to the World
Health Organization, is to ensure that infection control is acknowledged universally
as a solid and essential basis towards patient safety and supports the reduction
of health care-associated infections and their consequences.
Chatham-Kent Alliance and Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital staff celebrate the day.

Chatham-Kent Alliance celebrates the day with a fun promotion of their code word. Paws is the code word that staff use to gently remind others when a moment for hand hygiene has been missed. Building a culture where we can all comfortably remind each other is part of a successful hand hygiene program.
The Regional Infection Control Networks hosted 300 participants at the first ever IP&C
Boot Camp held Monday May 30th. This was the largest registration for a preconference
day for a CHICA conference. The military theme engaged the audience with a PPE
fashion show, clickers, group work and relevant presentations. Participants learned
about the chain of infection, Routine Practices and Additional Precautions, Outbreak
Management and Occupational Health issues related to IP&C. To read more about
this day please go to the RICN website main page.
