Pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon

CONTACT
 Mode of Transmission:

Direct and indirect contact
Fecal / oral route
Infectious Material:
Feces
 Duration of Additional Precautions:
Until normal stools for at least 48 hours and terminal cleaning completed
Signs & Symptoms:
Loose, watery bowel movements (conform to the shape of the container)
Comments:
  • Single room with dedicated equipment and toilet facilities. May cohort with dedicated equipment and toilet facilities, if single room not available
  • Twice daily cleaning of all horizontal surfaces, high touch surfaces, equipment and bathroom facilities required
  • Notify infection control
*Ontario: Institutional outbreaks reportable to Medical Officer of Health
