About the Northwestern Ontario Infection Control Network (NWOICN)
The Northwestern Ontario Infection Control Network (NWOICN) comprises a vast area in Ontario stretching from the Manitoba border on the West to Pic Mobert on the East and Fort Severn on the northernmost boundary. This area is one of the largest geographic regions (60% of the total landmass of the Province) to be covered by an infection control network in Ontario. There are 65 First Nations communities within this region and approximately 22,000 First Nation’s citizens residing off reserves. The foundation for the NWOICN is built on strong networks that are already in place, such as the Ontario Telemedicine (formerly North Network) CHICA- Northwestern Ontario ( formerly Northwestern Ontario Professionals in Infection Control) and excellent collaboration between and among the two health units and individual health care agencies and facilities.
